Q. When does Simtek plan to announce quarterly financial results?
A.Simtek is committed to announcing quarterly financial results within 30 days of the close of the quarter.
Q. What markets does Simtek target?
A. Simtek targets markets and customer applications where high speed memory performance and long-term data integrity are the major concerns for designers. Markets currently using Simtek nvSRAM include: server and data storage; industrial controls and factory automation; metering systems; industrial gaming; data-communications; telecommunications; military; imaging.
Q.What memory products does Simtek produce?
A. Simtek manufactures a family of non-volatile static random access memory products that combine the best features of two different memory technologies. Simtek's nvSRAMs combine the high performance and ease of use of fast static RAMs and the long-term data retention “non-volatility” of Flash memories. This is achieved without the need for batteries and with the SRAM front-end to our integrated memory provides infinite read and write data storage capability without the wear-out problems typical of competing Flash technologies. Included in this product family are nvSRAMs with a low power real time clock to provide nonvolatile data storage with an integrated “on-chip” clock function capable of using power from a capacitor instead of the traditional battery to complete the critical data transfer from the SRAM portion to the non-volatile portion of our integrated memory solution. See Simtek's Products
Q. What does non-volatile mean?
A. In the context of semiconductor memories, non-volatile refers to the chip's ability to retain data when electrical power is removed from the device. When power is restored the data may be used by the system, just as if no interruption had occurred. Traditional SRAMs and DRAMs lose their data when power is turned off or interrupted.
Q. What is Simtek's technical advantage?
A. See Current Products Brochure (PDF)
Q. Where do you manufacture your products?
A. Simtek is a classic fabless semiconductor company. Simtek subcontracts silicon manufacturing and product assembly and test to world-class experts in their respective fields. Chartered Semiconductor in Singapore and Dongbu Semiconductor in Korea process our silicon wafers. Amkor in the Philippines packages most of our parts, and final testing is done by Amkor in the Philippines and by Integra in Wichita, Kansas.
Q. How do Simtek's nvSRAMs compare to other memory products?
A. Simtek's nvSRAMs replace combinations of batteries plus SRAMs, EEPROMs plus SRAMs, and FLASH plus SRAMs. They can also be used to supplement FLASH. See memory technology comparison table.
Q. Does Simtek own proprietary intellectual property for the nvSRAM products?
A. Simtek currently holds 15 patents related to various aspects of non-volatile technology and the implementation of nvSRAM products. In addition, we have 12 patent applications pending as a result of applications filed in 2006.
To continue to be the world leader in providing customer solutions employing innovative methods of design, implementation, and manufacturing of integrated memory solutions using SONOS-enabled non-volatile RAM techniques.
Simtek has integrated the most desired features of volatile and non-volatile memory into a single chip; the nvSRAM.
The nvSRAM combines static random access memory (SRAM) with non-volatile (Flash) elements in a shadow memory configuration. Each SRAM cell contains Quantum Trap non-volatile elements, and can be read directly to (or written from) the external data pins, in a manner identical to conventional SRAM operation.
Simtek's nvSRAMs answer the needs of high end military systems, as well as the requirements to be the ideal solution for volume commercial products where the integrity of stored data and the system speed with which that data can be stored are at a premium. A sampling of applications for Simtek's family of nvSRAM products include: direct-attached storage RAID servers and storage arrays; cellular telephones; high density hard disk drives; modems; smart utility meters; home and commercial security systems; instrumentation; and military systems including communications, radar, sonar, and smart weapons.
Simtek Corporation is a fabless semiconductor company that designs and markets high-speed, re-programmable, non-volatile semiconductor memory products, for use in a variety of systems including RAID servers, storage arrays, GPS navigational systems, industrial controllers, robotics, copiers, avionics, metering, consumer, UPS, and networking and broadcast equipment. The company is headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and was founded in 1987. In addition, Simtek has design and sales offices in San Diego California and Dresden Germany.
